California is home to a true wonder of the world. The coast redwood and giant sequoia forests are as significant to our planet as the Amazon rainforest, the Great Barrier Reef and the Serengeti. The redwood forests are home to the tallest and largest trees on the planet.

They support rare layers of life found nowhere else on Earth that have withstood eons of change. And visitors to the redwoods have the opportunity to connect with a landscape unlike any other <\/strong>\u2014 embodying a sense of beauty, balance and resilience that has been millions of years in the making.<\/p>\n

For a century, Save the Redwoods League has been singularly focused on protecting and safeguarding the ancient treasures that are redwood forests. We were founded in 1918 to protect these great forests from extinction. In the wake of the 1849 Gold Rush came the timber rush \u2014 an explosive demand for lumber in California that almost eliminated ancient redwood forests that had flourished for more than 20 million years. Over the last century, the League has protected more than 200,000 acres<\/strong><\/a> of redwood forests and helped create 66 redwood parks and reserves, touching the lives of millions of people by connecting them to these towering wonders of nature.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our members’\u00a0donations<\/strong>\u00a0help us create redwood parks and reserves by allowing us to\u00a0purchase<\/strong> from willing sellers\u00a0forests and surrounding lands. We donate or sell this land to\u00a0permanent caretakers<\/strong>\u00a0such as other nonprofit organizations. If necessary, we care for the land<\/strong>\u00a0we purchase until another organization can purchase or care for it.<\/p>\n
