The redwood forests are home to the tallest and largest trees on the planet. These ancient forests store more carbon per acre than any other forest type in the world, and can play an outsized role in slowing climate change. They support rare and imperiled plant and animal species. And visitors to the redwoods have the opportunity to connect with a landscape unlike any other.<\/p>\n<p>We almost lost these forests after the Gold Rush and the explosive demand for timber. Save the Redwoods League brought the forests back from the brink of extinction by buying and protecting ancient groves for future generations to experience. <\/p>\n<p>Now, as we start our second century, the League is embarking on a <a href=\"\/100-years\/next-100-years\/\">Centennial Vision for Redwoods Conservation<\/a> that will double the size of the protected redwood forests, put young forests on the path to becoming magnificent old-growth stands, and connect people to these magical places through magnificent parks.<\/p>\n<p>Realizing this vision will require all of us who love the redwoods to get behind this ambitious effort. This is why Save the Redwoods League is doing more to <strong>advocate for policy and legislation<\/strong> that will help us succeed in the next 100 years. Join us in the following efforts to create the expansive, vibrant redwood forests for the future.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Policy and Legislation Issues<\/h2>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-sm-4\"><a href=\"\/get-involved\/take-action\/wildfire-response-and-healthy-forests\/\" title=\"Wildfire response and healthy forests\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Big_Basin_Late_Day_Landscape_Mar_2017_Forster-300x270.jpg\" alt=\"Big Basin State Park before it was devestated by wildfire.\" width=\"320\" class=\"img-responsive alignnone size-medium wp-image-35153\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-11\">\n<h3><a href=\"\/get-involved\/take-action\/wildfire-response-and-healthy-forests\/\" title=\"Wildfire response and healthy forests\">Wildfire response and healthy forests<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>The League raised a <a href=\"\/get-involved\/take-action\/wildfire-response-and-healthy-forests\/\" title=\"Wildfire response and healthy forests\">call for action<\/a> on an emergency bill crafted to respond to the immediate danger of wildfires and avert future catastrophes. <a href=\"https:\/\/calmatters.org\/environment\/2020\/08\/wildfire-bill-california-legislature\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">But it never made it to the floor<\/a>.\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-4\"><a href=\"\/get-involved\/take-action\/support-of-the-great-american-outdoors-act\/\" title=\"Great American Outdoors Act\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/McApin3Waterfall-Mike-Shoys-web-300x270.jpg\" alt=\"The Great American Outdoors Act passed!\" width=\"320\" class=\"img-responsive alignnone size-medium wp-image-40767\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-11\">\n<h3><a href=\"\/get-involved\/take-action\/support-of-the-great-american-outdoors-act\/\" title=\"Great American Outdoors Act\">Great American Outdoors Act<\/a><\/h3>\n<p> The recently passed <a href=\"\/get-involved\/take-action\/support-of-the-great-american-outdoors-act\/\" title=\"Great American Outdoors Act\">Great American Outdoors Act<\/a> provides the LWCF with funding in perpetuity, which may benefit a number of shovel-ready park improvement projects in the coast redwood and giant sequoia ranges.\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-4\"><a href=\"\/project\/local-funding-measures-support-redwoods\/\" title=\"Support Measures M and FF\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Thank-You-M-FF-300x270.jpg\" alt=\"Measures M and FF passed!\" width=\"320\" class=\"img-responsive alignnone size-medium wp-image-35153\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-11\">\n<h3><a href=\"\/project\/local-funding-measures-support-redwoods\/\" title=\"Support Measures M and FF\">Funding Measures M &#038; FF<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>The League and voters supported <a href=\"\/project\/local-funding-measures-support-redwoods\/\" title=\"Support Measures M and FF\">two important local funding measures<\/a> on the November 2018 ballot for local and regional parks.\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"clearfix\">\n<div class=\"col-sm-4\"><a href=\"\/project\/prop-3-the-water-supply-and-water-quality-act-of-2018\/\" title=\"Vote Yes on Prop 3, The Water Supply and Water Quality Act of 2018\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Yes3-rejected-300x270.jpg\" alt=\"CA voters rejected Proposition 3 on the November ballot.\" width=\"320\" class=\"img-responsive alignnone size-medium wp-image-35154\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-11\">\n<h3><a href=\"\/project\/prop-3-the-water-supply-and-water-quality-act-of-2018\/\" title=\"Vote Yes on Prop 3, The Water Supply and Water Quality Act of 2018\">Prop 3, CA Water Bond<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>On November 6, 2018, California voters rejected <a href=\"\/project\/prop-3-the-water-supply-and-water-quality-act-of-2018\/\" title=\"Prop 3, The Water Supply and Water Quality Act of 2018\">Prop 3, California Water Bond<\/a>.\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-4\"><a href=\"\/project\/prop-6-sb1-gas-tax-repeal\/\" title=\"Vote NO on Prop 6, SB1 Gas Tax Repeal\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/Instagram-Post_Thank-You-No6-rev-300x270.jpg\" alt=\"Thank you California for voting No on Prop 6!\" width=\"320\" class=\"img-responsive alignnone size-medium wp-image-35152\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-11\">\n<h3><a href=\"\/project\/prop-6-sb1-gas-tax-repeal\/\" title=\"Vote NO on Prop 6, SB1 Gas Tax Repeal\">Prop 6, Gas Tax Repeal<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>On November 6, 2018, California voters confirmed we need the gas tax and <a href=\"\/project\/prop-6-sb1-gas-tax-repeal\/\" title=\"Vote NO on Prop 6, SB1 Gas Tax Repeal\">voted NO on Prop 6<\/a>.\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"col-sm-4\"><a href=\"\/project\/prop-68-clean-water-safe-parks-act\/\" title=\"Prop 68\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/thanks-prop68-300x270.jpg\" alt=\"Prop 68\" width=\"320\" class=\"img-responsive alignnone size-medium wp-image-34183\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-11\">\n<h3><a href=\"\/project\/prop-68-clean-water-safe-parks-act\/\" title=\"Prop 68\">Prop 68, Water Bond<\/a><\/h3>\n<p>Learn about the passage of the statewide park and water bond, <a href=\"\/project\/prop-68-clean-water-safe-parks-act\/\" title=\"Prop 68\">Proposition 68: The Clean Water and Safe Parks Act<\/a>, that was approved by voters in June.\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"clearfix\">\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-sm-4\"><a href=\"\/project\/proposition-64-california-adult-use-of-marijuana-act\/\" title=\"Proposition 64: California Adult Use of Marijuana Act\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/StreamRestoration20-300x270.jpg\" alt=\"Creek restoration in Redwood National and State Parks.
