This extraordinary place is at a convergence of the traditional territories of the Sinkyone, Cahto, and Coast Yuki peoples. With more than 2,250 acres (about 3.5 square miles) of second-growth redwood forest and large old-growth trees scattered throughout, this property has been managed for commercial timber production since the 1880s. Now this forest will be set on a new path to become an old-growth forest of the future and potentially an iconic coastal redwood destination for all people.<\/p>\n<p>Save the Redwoods League acquired Lost Coast Redwoods property for $36.9 million in December 2021. The land is protected from excessive timber harvesting, subdivision, and development. The League <a href=\"https:\/\/secure.savetheredwoods.org\/a\/lostcoastredwoods?sourceid=1160340\">continues fundraising<\/a>, seeking public and private funding to repay the loans and support the permanent protection, restoration and stewardship of the property. Leading that effort is a new challenge grant from The Goodman Family Foundation, a supporting foundation of the Jewish Community Federation and Endowment Fund, that will match new donations dollar-for-dollar up to $1 million through March 31.<\/p>\n<p>The League will work to restore the land\u2019s natural resilience and is committed to exploring opportunities for cultural stewardship
